APA baseball’s 2018 season is now in full swing, with three no-hitters already this year, two thrown by senior righthander Connor Bright.
Cary CS and Asheville CA felt the wrath of Bright’s pitching, which has led APA to a 13-5 record overall (4-0 CRC).
Junior William Hill and sophomore Brandon Zoltek, two more key pitching contributors, helped pitch a third no-hitter – a 10-0, five inning mercy rule win over SDS – before spring break.
“This year is looking pretty good so far,” said Hill. “We’ve been pitching really well and hopefully that will continue.”
The team’s scoring prowess has also been on display this year, with 155 runs and averaging nearly 10 runs (8.6 RPG) a game.
Senior Graham Barefoot, batting over .400, has been a key contributor to Head Coach Robert Kravitz’s squad.
“Whenever I’m batting I always just try to make contact with the ball,” said Barefoot.
Sophomore Trey McLawhorn leads the Patriots with three home runs.
In the last three games, the team has scored 28 runs under the leadership of this year’s seniors, including Graham, Bright, Josh Lebron, Alex Urban, and Christian Jones.
